The Idea

After Portland, one of my friends, (Dick, WB4SUV), said that while he was hunting, if he had a simple way to know when the next fox was going to start transmitting. He thought there ought to be away with a PIC chip and some LEDs to make something useful.

Well, here's what I came up with. It's called the FoxTimer, and it flashes LEDs in one minute increments. When started, the first LED will slow blink for 45 seconds, and then switch to fast blink. At one minute, the first LED will light steady, and the second LED with slow flash, etc... The dip switch is use to indicate how many foxes are in the current hunt.

Circuit

(schematic)

Construction is fairly straightforward. I built my first test on perf board, and then created a PCB layout for a more professional look. I selected the 16F84 PIC for this project, basically because it's cheap and esaily re-programmed.
