Membership
The main requirement for becoming a member of FOLI is that you share our interest in morse code as a fun and interesting mode of communication on the amateur radio bands. Membership is not limited to individuals residing in the Long Island area, but is open to all licensed amateur radio operators in the "2" call area.

There is no formal club charter and no dues. We are an informal association of "hams" with a shared interest. The club was founded as a voluntary effort. We enjoy promoting Morse Code while participating in on air FISTS special events and contests and most importantly, having fun.

Please email the club's trustee Ray, N2IJ to request further details and membership information.

Club Call Use

There are certain guidelines that we require members to follow concerning the use of the club call sign. These guidelines and suggestions are provided in order to maintain a good image for the club and make operating easier. All efforts to adhere to these guidelines are greatly appreciated.

  • Using the club call does not give you any operating privileges beyond what you already have for your license class. For example, if you hold an Advanced Class license you can not use the club call in the Extra Class sub-bands.

  • The club call can only be used with prior permission from the club's trustee. The club's call may be used primarily for special events, such as the FISTS Sprints and FISTS-sponsored events, but the club trustee would like to encourage all members to use the call at any time (with permission), the intent being to promote FISTS in general and help others towards awards by allowing them to gain 3 FISTS points.

  • Since we are a FISTS club and our intent is to promote the use of CW, the club trustee requires that you only use the club call sign for CW QSOs. It is also recommended that you use the club call at the well-known FISTS frequencies whenever possible.

  • When making on-air contacts with the club call, identify the club, yourself, and give the club's FISTS membership number, 7450. Remember that for the op on the other end of your QSO the contact is worth 3 points.

  • When using the club call ask the other station to "QSL via FISTS buro".

  • You can also give out your call and personal FISTS membership number, which will award the other op an extra FISTS point. Here is a suggested exchange: Call CQ (or answer a CQ) with the club call, K2FFF. After greeting and RST try this: "This is FISTS of Long Island Club in <your QTH>. Club nr is 7450. Op is <your name>, <your call> es my FISTS nr is <your #>. Hw cpy?" Then you can complete your turn by signing K2FFF/<your call>.
