Who Am I?

Well, to begin with, I am a resident of Flemington, New Jersey, the Hunterdon County seat. Actually I live in Raritan Township, just west of Flemington. For you GPS nuts, it's FN20nm, at 40 deg. 31' 10" N by 074 deg. 51' 2" W.

Work...

I am a teacher/administrator for the Somerset County Technical Institute in Bridgewater. For those who know central New Jersey, Bridgewater is at the intersection of I.S. 287, I.S. 78, U.S. 22, U.S. 202/206. How's that for crossroads??? Anyway, the school is located in the middle of Bridgewater, a few feet north of I.S. 287 and U.S. 22. The County library is in the area.

At the TI I am the Computer coordinator. That is to say I coordinate all of the activities of the Computer Technology area, including developing new courses, hiring new instructors (we hire only the best!), etc. A major portion of the Computer Technology program is the Microsoft Certification courses. These are the actual Microsoft courses that are normally given in a five-day format, but as an Authorized Academic Training Program school, we offer the exact same courses in a 15-week format. Each course meets once a week for four hours. At the end of the semester, the student is ready to take the certification exam at a Sylvan Prometric testing site.

Amateur Radio Interest

I have been an amateur radio operator (many call us "Hams") for nearly 45 years. I earned my first ham license back in 1954 as a Novice. My call letters then were WN8TJJ. Less than a year later I passed the general class exam, and my call became W8TJJ, which remained until I moved from central Ohio to New Jersey. My new NJ call issued by the FCC was W2CGX, which I still have today.

I am active on the VHF frequencies, especially during the morning and evening drive-time, where I frequent the Cherryville Repeater on 147.375. When I'm home, and especially early evenings and weekends, you are likely to find me on the HF bands, from 80 meters to 10 meters. My "shack" is undergoing some renovation, including a new home-built console, but here's what it looks like at the moment. That's me at the rig!

You will also find me on APRS, with my tracker as W2CGX-15, the house as W2CGX-9 and at the school I am often on the Internet, at W2CGX-IP. I also have fun with PSK-31, RTTY, Slow Scan TV and ATV.
