SIMULATED EMERGENCY TEST (SET)
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2006
*** THE DRILL HAS BEEN CANCELLED ***
Due to forecasted severe weather, SKYWARN will be activated statewide and spotters will be reporting pertinent
weather data to the various NWS forecast centers. ARES does not want to inject fictitious weather messages among the real
SKYWARN traffic. We wish that all the planning and work that went into preparing for this SET will make us more aware of
what has to be thought of ahead of time in order to face a real emergency. From the simple matters of charging up the
batteries for the rigs to the more complex chores of planning phone trees and frequency plans that will work for the majority of those
participating are all part of the plan on being ready to serve during an emergency.
To all who helped in the planning and
organization of this drillthrough your time, devotion and personal sacrifices, a sincere thank you for a job well done!!
New Membership Procedures
Note that the Application forms for new members and for renewals are now on-line. Go to
the CT ARES site and click on the "Membership" link for full details.
Joining and renewing has never been so easy!!
Be sure to also visit the Region 2 reflector page at
The reflector will be a place to exchange ideas on Emergency Communications, particularly within
Region 2. A Calendar has also been set up to keep a running schedule of upcoming events in an easy-to-access area. I welcome
ideas on the reflector as well as ideas on this website.
* Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) Needed *
Region 2 needs volunteers that are willing to become part of Rapid Response Teams. These teams will be used to activate fully equipped Emergency Operation Centers as soon as possible after a disaster is declared. I am looking for primarily 2 teams of 5 to 7-individuals each to act either as East/West teams or North/South teams for rapid deployment. If anyone is interested in being on a team, please let me know. To see the full story on RRTs, click here.
