Biography
First licensed in 1977 as WB1BTQ (in Maine). Hold an Extra class license. Held the call until 1981 when having been transfered to Alaska with the USAF, obtained the call AL7DL. Held that call (and several overseas calls) until 1998 when I obtained the 'vanity' call K1GAX (one of my 'Elmers'). Retired from the USAF in 1994 and returned to Maine. Main interests in Amateur Radio are; Emergency and Public Service communications, VHF and UHF communications (6 and 2 meters and 70 centimeters, ducting, meteor scatter, aurora, satellite communications, digital and experimental modes). I spent the better part of 20 years with the Department of Defense as a Satellite and Wideband (microwave) technician. After my separation from the Department of Defense, I became a broadcast engineer with a local UHF TV station. I retired from my job as a broadcast engineer in 2012.
