My name is Barry Devine, and I live in Canton, Mass, about 20 miles south of Boston. In 1995, I attended a Novice / Tech class offered by the Norwood Amateur Radio Club of Norwood Mass, and obtained my Technician ticket as N1UYP. In 1998, I applied and was granted the vanity call of K1BFD (my initials). In early 2000, I attended an "over the air" morse code class offered by the Massasoit Amateur Radio Association, and finally obtained my Technician Plus ticket in April 2000. I spent the Fall of 2000 studying for my General, and attended a one day class and VE testing session in Manchester New Hampshire, and in November 2000, I was awarded my General class ticket. My goal is to get my Extra by Field Day 2001. I have been a member, officer, and the WebMaster of the Norwood Amateur Radio Club since 1995 as well as the ARRL. I am also a Volunteer Examiner (VE) with the W5YI VEC Program, and am currently in the process of obtaining my VE certification from the ARRL VEC.
My current HAM radio interests are contesting, especially, VHF / UHF contesting, PSK31, FM Repeaters, and 6 Meter SSB. As time permits, I hope to get more active on HF SSB, and some of the other digital modes.
In addition to HAM radio, my hobbies include computers (as a hobby and profession), mototcycles (Harley of course), and Home Entertainment Systems. My current home theatre consists of a Pioneer Dolby Digital receiver, 50" Mitsubishi rear projection TV, Dish Network Direct Broadcast Satellite TV receiver, Pioneer and Sony Laser Disk players, two Pioneer DVD players, Mitsubishi SVHS VCR, Klipsch tower front speakers, Klipsch wall mount rear speakers, Klipsch Center channel speaker, and a 250 watt Klipsch Sub Woofer. The room itself was designed and built to Lucas Systems THX specifications.
