PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

The answer to October's trivia question, "Who has license privileges to use 20 meters (14.000 - 14.350 MHZ), the most popular HF band.  No novice or technician privileges are afforded at 20 meters.  The general segments of the band occur at 14.025 - 14.150 and 14.225 - 14.350 MHZ.  Advanced licensees have access to 14.025 - 14.150 and 14.175 - 14.350 MHZ and Extra Amateurs have access to the entire band.

Joe callahan - NØQAU - filled in for secretary, Laurie Heick - KCØNHW - and I really appreciated his assistance.  The club discussed holding a class for Level 1 - Technician Rating and/or holding a class for HAMS that hold a Technician Rating to upgrade to Level 2 - General Rating, Joe - NØQAU - and Stan Kittelson - WDØDAJ - will work on when the classes will be held, so if you are interested in these classes contact Joe or Stan.

On October 21st, 2006 (Saturday) the TRARC will have our "Ham Radio Display" set up for the community days at the Prairie Hills Mall, so if you can attend this function, please do so. This is one event that can attract and recruit new people into becoming HAMS.

It's not to early to mark your calendars that on November 25th (last Saturday in November) the TRARC will be having its annual "Christmas Party" at the Elk's Club in Dickinson N.D.  We will be discussing our "Christmas Party" at our next meeting.

Our October 2nd meeting was well attended and very enjoyable because I was sure something positive would happen at this meeting.  And something good did happen - I won $17.00 at the drawing at the end of the meeting. Thank you TRARC members.

The trivia question for the month is: "What year did the U.S. Congress authorize the FCC to establish a vanity call sign system?"  This will be answered in next month's newsletter.  I'm sure everyone is enjoying what nice days we are having because before long, Old Man Winter will be here.  Hope to see you all at our November 6th meeting.

The busy summer activities are winding down and we have seen our first snow. It will be so nice when all the candles are gone from the Interstate and barrels from Highway 22. At least we can drive on one side now. We are finally getting some moisture after the long hot summer. The grass was really nice and green at the end of September. It's hard to believe that the end of the year is only two months away. Show and Tell will be over by the time this goes to print. Hopefully we'll get some interest in Amateur Radio Classes. The last thing to look forward to is the Christmas Party on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

November is known for two things - Veterans and Thanksgiving. As Veterans Day nears, let us not forget those who have served and are serving in the Armed Forces to protect our freedom. Keep them in your prayers. At Thanksgiving we can be grateful for what we have because not everyone is so fortunate.

My wish for everyone is to have a happy and healthy winter, holidays spent with good friends and family and many fine contacts on the air waves.

EDITOR'S NOTE

With another year end approaching, I would like
to remind everyone that there won't be a monthly
meeting or newsletter in December.  Also with TRARC
and ARRL dues coming up, remember if you pay
your ARRL dues through the club, TRARC receives
money from ARRL for sending them in and it is
another way to support your club!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
