PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Even though Mother Nature blessed us with wind and heavy, wet snow, we had very good attendance for our April meeting on Skywarn Training. John Paul Martin, a warning coordination meteorologist of the National Weather Service, did an outstanding presentation. We truly appreciate his willingness and readiness to work with ham radio operators.

Please be thinking about “Ham of the Year Nominations“. This needs to be completed by the end of June, so the nominations will be due at our June 4th meeting. Also be thinking about stepping up, coordinating the preparation, and running the radios for Field Day on June 23rd and 24th. We need your help!

Welcome back Stanley WDØDAJ and Betty KBØNVT- Kittelson from your wintering in Arizona!

Betty KBØNVT and Irene WDØDAW will display some club clothing and provide us with ordering opportunities at our next meeting.

Also, after the meeting on May 7th, Jim Faye, NØSJ, will present “Good Operating Procedures”..

See you there! 73

April Fools Day came one day late in the form of rain turning to snow late in the day just in time to thwart the plans of those coming from out of town to the annual SkyWarn meeting. We all know what happens to wet roads when the temperature drops.I understand there was a good representation from the various groups from Dickinson at the meeting such as boy scouts and law enforcement in addition to the hams. It was said that John Paul had a very good presentation again. The weather has been a hot topic lately because of the fact that it was warmer at Christmas than the first weeks of April.
After a slight delay due to an unusual flurry of activity due to the code requirement being lifted, our students finally received their calls. They are as follows: Reshell Freeman, KDØAAI,  Melissa Sheppard KDØAAK and David Watkins KDØAAL. Dave Shepperd formerly KE6ZYY got the call KDØAAJ. Three hams also received a vanity call: David Williams KØHKY, Kady Hansey KDØKDY and Tyler Hansey KDØTJH.
Now the snow is gone and we are awaiting the rain that the weather service always forecasts. Spring work has begun. The southerners have returned and its good to see them back. It seems the pace of life has picked up too and there just isn't enough time in one day to get everything accpmplished. Changes are coming too and I for one am resistant to some changes but I guess only time will tell.
Have a good spring and summer!

NORTH DAKOTA: SM, Kent Olson, KA0LDG

Well, it finally looks as if the weather is changing for the better. A lot of clubs are starting to schedule and host SKYWARN classes. It’s always a good idea to brush up on weather spotting information and be ready for potential call-outs. Field Day preparations are in progress around the state. This will be a great time to get those new Generals as well as everyone else on the bands. Let’s put North Dakota all over the airwaves. The Bismarck hams are getting involved with the city and county officials in case there’s a flu pandemic. This is a good idea, and I hope all the clubs are looking into this. The Fargo Hamfest is this Saturday, April 21st - hope to see you there. I’m always looking for interesting stuff you folks are up doing to print here. HF NM KØJIM net reports for March: Weather Net: 54,986,6. Data Net: 27,642,12. Goose River Net: 4,40,1. Note: The WX NET will go till the last day in April and start in the fall on the first of October from now on.
