PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
As I reflect upon a few of the reasons why I wanted to become part of the ham radio operators and our local club, I realized they haven't changed a whole lot. Where the change has occurred, is an even greater respect and admiration for the committed core members who continuously share, teach, and give of themselves for the greater good of our local organization and our world. I am humbled by your faith in entrusting me with this office. Know that with your help, participation, and input, I will do my best to give of myself thus adding to an already great club. I was in need of some intellectual stimulation, and the classes offered met those needs. I was in need of expanding my social circle with caring people, and those needs were met. I was in need of serving the greater community is some way, and the opportunities are endless through this organization. I wanted some fun, and I found it here!

Thanks again to Dick Hanson KCØHXG for your past service as president, and thank you to those elected to their respected offices for 2007. Be thinking about who you would like to elect for Public Relations during our next meeting. Irene Bosch WDØDAW is recovering nicely from surgery and is grateful for the prayers and encouragement. Good luck and best wishes to those preparing to test in the days ahead. We wish you all the best. Thanks also to those who have provided me with constructive critique; creative suggestions on how to not only maintain, but enhance our club; and a special thanks to you for being part of one of the greatest hobbies in the world!

God bless,
73

MARGARET’S CORNER

Classes are over for another year. All but the testing. Because the no code General doesn't go into effect till after February 23 rd, it was decided that testing would be held on March 3 rd. We have a newcomer to the group, David Williams, who passed his tech test and 5wpm code at the end of December. His call is KCØZFK. On Feb. 17th a test session was held and David successfully upgraded to General. At that session we also had two young people, Kady and Tyler Hansey, grandchildren of Rod KCØRRR and Rhonda KCØROR, receive their Technician license. There are several that will be testing on March 3 for their new General upgrades.

After several weeks of "balmy" weather we had a reality check - sub zero weather. We even experienced a bit of snow. I missed a good photo opportunity when we went to Glendive on February 15th. As we broke over the hill going into the badlands the view was breathtaking. The badlands were snow covered and the sun was shining just right to make it the most beautiful sight. It is hard to describe and all I can say is that this is the prettiest I have seen the badlands in a long time. And I will say again - we are so lucky to live in North Dakota. And just think, spring isn't too far away.

Congratulations to all our new hams and upgrades.

Enjoy your new privileges on the air!

ARRL NORTH DAKOTA SECTION NEWS

NORTH DAKOTA: SM, Kent Olson, KA0LDG - The cold weather lately doesn't give much credence to Punxsutawney Phil's prediction (the official Ground Hog) of an early spring, but that must be somewhere else. It was great to see all of those who ventured out in the -20 deg; temps to the Grand Forks hamfest. It just proves that most weather won't stop hams from going to a hamfest. Correction from last month - the Bismarck 94 repeater’s CTCSS is 107.2 - thanks to those who set me straight.

Just a couple of weeks till the FCC drops the CW requirement for access to the HF bands. My advise is to accept the change, welcome the new HF'ers and move on teaching them proper etiquette on the HF bands. Please don't ostracize them, as it's not their fault the FCC changed the rules. Complaining about the change does about as much good as it does to complain about the weather. This will be a crucial time in ham radio, and we all need to make the change a positive one. Club activities have been slow, as winter usually slows things down. If you're looking for something to do, why don't you enroll in one of the FEMA emergency courses.

Please consider supporting the ARRL's Spectrum Defense Fund. Your contributions all add up when they go to Congress to fight for our frequencies. The next upcoming hamfests are: Bismarck February 24th, and Fargo on April 21st - hope to see you there.
