PRIESEDENTS CORNER

We had a nice meeting, and a nice group attended, the Birthday Party, honoring three of our members that will be celebrating their 90th Birthdays this year. WØBHF Charlie, WØIRY Larry, and WØZCM Mark. The camaraderie was great.

We also had a nice 20-minuet presentation on the Handi Ham camp program, and the club voted to send Larry, a vision impaired member of our club to the camp near Bemidji, MN

It may take awhile for Mick KCØRLF to get set up as the newsletter Editor. Thank You Mick.

We will have to get a work party together to put up the new antenna at the 64 site, and Stan wants to tune the duplexes.

A lot of folks are busy trying to get yards ready for summer. And a few gardens are being planted; we have not done anything in the garden yet.

Paddlefish weekend is coming up, looking forward to getting the camper out, and getting together with some of our Ham friends.

Have a good summer and keep our eyes to the sky.

New Business

  1. Handi Ham Camp – We were approached to get the clubs feelings on sponsoring    Larry Skwarok to send him to the Handi Ham Camp to help him study for his license.  The fee is $225.00 and he would pay all other expenses.  The camp is August 23-30, 2005.  Consensus was to pay the registration fee.  Motion to approve made by Emil, NØDK, and seconded by Leon, KØLU.  Motion carried.
  2. Raffle – Received a check from Dickinson Charity for the amount of $2000.00 for the boat raffle.  The money was designated for a 706 radio for the EOC trailer, a tuner and antennae for the 64 repeater and possibly a CW and Sideband filter, which would help for field day.
  3. Field Day – We need a field day coordinator.  Contact Joe or Bill if interested or know someone who would be willing to coordinate that weekend.
  4. Ham of the Year – We will do nominations at the June meeting.

Winner of the meeting drawing is Evelyn, KCØHKR.  Congratulations!

Motion to adjourn made by Emil, NØDK, and seconded by Evelyn, KCØHKR.  Motion carried. Meeting adjourned.

Life is fragile: Handle with prayer! It is with a heavy heart and lingering sadness that I write this because we were made painfully aware just how fragile life is. On the evening of April 26th we learned of the tragic accident that took Art Rabe KBØVSE from our midst. Something we least expected because he was always so careful.
Art was a good addition to our club and will be missed. Not only was he the Newsletter Editor but he was also frequency coordinator for the state of North Dakota. We could keep track of his whereabouts on the TRARC website under "Where's Art?". It is no wonder that we still perk up when the repeater comes up as we listen for that lilting "KBØVSE" to identify, just to let us know he was coming through. When in town we could count on him to be at Pizza on Friday night, breakfast on Saturday and the Dairy Barn on Sunday if his dance schedule permitted it. We liked to tease him abiut his dancing, a sideline he came to thoroughly enjoy.
When available Art would help set up for Field Day and participate in helping out at the july 4th and Horsefest parades. He even came to the Peace Gardens with his truck. In the last couple of years he was chief grill cook at the annual TRARC picnic and of course "Santa" at our Christmas Party. He will never be forgotten for his generosity at our various auctions. He would bid up an item as high as it would go "for the good of the club" and after purchase would present the item to whomever it was that wanted it in the first place.
Last of all he was all set to be our tower monkey once more to put up the new antenna on the tower at Killdeer. Little did we know that when we bid him goodbye on Sunday it would be our last. We even teased him about having a party for his birthday the next Sunday. The irony of it all was that he wanted to get out of trucking and try a new venture which he had already been pursuing.
So for the last time, all of us in the Theodore Roosevelt Amateur Radio Club say "Art, my friend, goodbye and God be with you!".
