PRESIDENTS CORNER

Our meeting went well. Would be nice if more of our Members could make the meetings. I know things are very busy for all. If possible please try and make a few of the meetings this year. We all would like to see you.

Curtis, KCØJVJ, will again be our coordinator for the 4th of July Parade in Dickinson. We will be covering more at the next meeting. Thanks Curtis.

KØLU, Leon, and Glen, WDØDAI, have been working some good DX. Getting some of the rare ones. We will be getting a visitor from Hamburg Germany, KB4HB, Rolf. He called the other day and said he plans on being in Dickinson on the 10th and 11th of June. Hopefully we will be able to get a group together for an eyeball, and visit with him while he is here. The bands have not been in the best of shape so have not had a contact on the air with him for some time.

Laurie, KCØNHW, and Betty, KCØNVT, went out to the Trap Club and posted the dates for Field Day, and Club Picnic. Thanks Ladies.

Thanks to Margaret, KB7TIR, for volunteering to fill the position of our Club Historian.  Thank you Margaret.

We still have some work to do at the repeater sites. We need to do a few things yet on the generator and the tower trailer. KØQQ, WØTUP and a few others went to Dayton Hamfest this year. Wonder what all kinds of good things they will be bringing home. NØQAU, Joe, said he could not make it this year do to other commitments. "Maybe one of these years I will be able to make it."

Well it has been cold, so not to many outside projects are getting done. WDØDAJ, Stan, is working on a map for APRS digi locations. WØTUP, Nels, also has a program to help make maps.

The paddlefish gathering at Intake, MT was great. The largest one caught weighed 84 lbs. The food was good and they had a nice meeting Saturday evening. Think Spring, rain and warmer temperatures.

God Bless. 73 Bill K0UB

ANYONE INTERESTED IN TEE SHIRTS, SWEATSHIRTS, OR CLUB JACKETS, PLEASE CONTACT BETTY, KCØNVT. WILL HAVE THE SHIRTS ON DISPLAY AT THE JUNE MEETING.

Welcome Back Margaret !!!

Margaret's Corner

Surprise! After two years off I'm back. I'd like to do a brief recap of the highlights of the last 4½ months. At the TRARC January meeting, an election of officers was held. New club officers are: President - Bill KØUB, Vice President - Darrel KCØAPN, and Sec./Treas - Laurie KCØNHW. Classes began in January. Mick Lewton attended one class on Saturday, bought a book and on the following Tuesday tested and passed. He received the call KCØRLF. Stan and Betty left for the south and Sue went to Arizona for an extended stay. Thanks to APRS and findu.com, we were able to keep track of Stan and Betty's location most of the time.
In February, Bernie took his test and became our next newest technician with the call KCØRRJ. Our cub was well represented at the Bismarck Hamfest and the weather was pretty decent in spite of dense fog. Our winter wasn't really too bad. At the end of March we did have one exceptional thunderstorm - no Skywarn activity - but the lightening display was a sight to behold. The Skywarn meeting was held at the Armory this year. John Paul gave an excellent presentation and it was well attended by several groups.
Stan and Betty thought they could sneak into town without us seeing them, unfortunately we caught a glimpse of them coming in as we gathered at the Armory.
Ah yes, I forgot to mention that Kim, NØQAV, received her doctorate degree in Audiology from the Arizona School of Health Sciences in Mesa Az and traveled to Phoenix for the graduation. As Joe said now the Callahan family has a "pair a docs".
We had beautiful weather in May, 80° to be exact on one day, and camping fever became apparent. Alas, our summer was short lived and below freezing temps since have raised havoc with trees, flowers and gardens.
Nevertheless, Stan and Betty and Bill and Irene attended the annual paddlefish weekend at Intake, MT. The weather must have been nicer up there because the guys came back looking a little burned.
Was it sun or wind" We sure have had our share of wind lately. Now if we could just get some badly needed rain. Guess we'll have to divise a rain dance. I suppose it'll wait till we get to the Peace Gardens. Here's wishing all a happy and safe summer with a lot of good camping outings. In the meantime don't forget the usual summer events coming up and help out if you can.

NASA names new supercomputer after lost Columbia ham astronaut. Nasa will dedicate a new supercomputer in memory of Kaplan "KC" Chawla, KD5ESI. She was one of the seven shuttle Columbia STS-107 mission crew members lost February 1, 2003, as the vehicle was returning to Earth. The May 12 dedication ceremony was held at NASA Ames Research Center in California. The first Indian-born woman to fly in space, Chawla served as a flight engineer and mission specialist aboard Columbia. NASA's naming of the new "Kalpana" supercomputer follows a long tradition at the research center of naming its new supercomputers after pioneers in the supercomputer industry or others in recognition of their achievements. The Columbia STS-107 crew, headed by Commander Rick Husband also included Pilot Willis McCool and Mission Specialists David Brown, KC5ZTC, Laurel Clark, KC5ZSU, Michael Anderson and Payload Specialist Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli astronaut.
