PRESIDENTS CORNER

Our classes have started, and we had three people at our first class. This last Saturday we had five people at class.

Classes are Saturday afternoon from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Thanks to all that are helping with the class.

Our raffle tickets are just about ready.

Meeting went well, had a nice group present. And the officers will be the same for one more year.

There are a few of you that have not paid your dues, please do so, or we will be dropping you from the Club roster, and newsletter.

Stan and Betty made it to Yuma AZ in fine shape, and I am sure that they are enjoying the nice weather.

It has been cold here, a good time to get in some hamming. The bands have not been in the best of shape,

but they may get better. The nets have been getting more check ins maybe do to the weather.

Leon KØLU has been busy on the Geratol Net, finishing up working all states with our club call so we

will be getting a Geratol number for the club call.

Every one stay warm enjoy making contacts with your fellow hams. Do not forget the hamfest in Bismarck the

26th of February.  Always a fun time.

Stay Warm, Good hamming.

Out with the old, in with the new (or not so new). At our first club meeting of 2005 they heard that train a comin' and all former officers were reelected. Thanks for last year and congratulations go out to  Bill KØUB, president, Darrel KCØAPN, vice president and Laurie KCØNHW secretary/treasurer.

Stan and Betty left  for Yuma, AZ on the 6th and just in time because our temperatures plunged into the deep freeze for a few days. Even so I awake each morning and can't help but thank God for the new day and how lucky we are. We have a little discomfort here with cold temperatures, wind , snow and sometimes ice. Compared to what is happening in the rest of the world such as tsunamis in Asia, mudslides in California, dams breaking in Arizona, houses sliding into the water in one part of Utah and an avalanche in another, plus tornadoes, ice storms and flooding in various other states, we can't complain and are truly blessed.

Tech class began Jan. 8 with 3 students in attendance at the LEC and some in Beach. We have some attending classes and some who are studying on their own.

Happy Valentines Day to all!    73,
Margaret KB7ITR

* Project OSCAR issues call for West Coast Symposium papers: Project OSCAR has issued a call for papers for its 2005 West Coast Space Symposium. Held in partnership with the College of San Mateo Electronics Department, the symposium is devoted to a broad range of topics ranging from current satellite construction projects to satellite operations and general technical discussions. The symposium takes place Saturday, May 7, at the College of San Mateo in San Mateo, California. Symposium registration, with refreshments, starts at 8 AM. Presentations begin promptly at 9 AM and run through 5:30 PM. Registration is $15 ($8 for students), which includes lunch and parking. There will be room at the campus facility to erect antennas for live demonstrations. For suggested presentation topics and more information, visit the Symposium Web site <http://www.projectoscar.net/2005_symposium.php>.

* Echo satellite reopens for normal FM repeater, digital use: The Echo (AO-51) command team says that because no tsunami relief-related emergency message traffic has been seen on the AO-51 Packsat Broadcast Protocol BBS (PBBS), it's configured the satellite to permit normal FM repeater and 9k6 digital operation. "The plan is to run in this mode until the end of January, unless word is received from the disaster area that a different setup would be useful," said the AO-51 command team's Mike Kingery, KE4AZN. Because the switch to solely digital store-and-forward operation pre-empted the satellite's use in FM repeater mode for Kid's Day January 2, AMSAT now plans to reschedule its Kid's Day activity on the satellite for an as-yet-unannounced Saturday in February. The AO-51 FM voice uplink is 145.920 MHz (with 67 Hz CTCSS tone required); downlink is 435.300 MHz. The 9k6 digital PBBS uplink is 145.860 MHz FM; downlink is 435.150 MHz FM.--AMSAT News Service
