MARGARET'S CORNER

When all the activities of spring and summer begin the time seems to go so much faster. We planned long and hard for our trip to Durango for the YL Convention at the end of May. It is hard to believe that six weeks have gone by and Colorado is but a memory. The scenery was beautiful and the train ride to Silverton awesome. Going over Wolf Creek Pass was quite an experience.
It is also a month since Joe NØQAU left for Havre and his new job there. It was so nice to see him back on the weekend of the 14th of July.
A couple of months ago John and Evelyn Bjorness joined us at the Club meeting and expressed an interest in becoming a Ham. Mid June John took his test and on June 22nd, just in time for Field Day, was issued the call KDØAZY. John, Evelyn and their grandson Damien were at Field Day and Damien, with the able guidance of Larry Fisher, was able to make some contacts on the air. What a thrill for the youngster! Concerning Field Day, our thanks go out to the Field Day crew namely Dave Williams - coordinator, Mellissa Shepperd - PR person, the setup and take down crews, operators, visitors and all who brought food for the duration. Also,Thank you to all those who helped in any way for the Roughrider Day parade.
A test session was held June 29th and Larry Skwarok became our newest Ham. Because Larry is blind, it is quite an accomplishment for him. His call is KDØBDL. Congratulations to Larry and good to hear him on the air.
Finally, Congratulations to Laurie KCØNHW and Darrel KCØAPN on the arrival of their new grandson on July 13th. Of course we can't forget mom and dad, Shannon and Derrick and great grandpa, Rod or great grandma, Barbara. Enjoy that little one. He sure is a cutie.
To all, enjoy the rest of summer and keep the air waves sizzling as well.

NORTH DAKOTA: SM, Kent Olson
Greetings, I hope your summer is going well. Field Day activities around the State seemed to be going along at a good pace.  North Dakota clubs put us on the air in at least six locations.
We won't find out till later this year who the winning club was though.  The weather held up, as well as the spirits at all the locations I visited.
Baring a few minor setbacks (and some not so minor), hams were having a great time.  The Hawksnest node of the Superlink will be off the air by the time you read this.  There have been ongoing structural problems with the tower, and now it must come down.  Presently, there are no new leads on where to re-connect this node, so if you have any ideas, please contact me, and I can put you in touch with the Superlink trustee.
Also, the Pillsbury tower which connects the eastern part of ND with the western part via the Superlink, will also be lost.  More to follow as this issue continues.
Upcoming hamfests: Grand Forks October 6th.
