PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

The answer to June's Trivia question, "In what radio - frequency range do amateur 2 meter communications take place?" It is the VHF, or very high frequency range.  VHF has a range of 30 MHz to 300MHz.  The 2 meter ham band, with actual frequencies of 144 to 148 MHz, is right in the middle of the 30 to 300 MHz range.

First, I would like to thank all the club members who worked installing the shelving in the TRARC cargo trailer.  The supplies in the cargo trailer are very easy to access now and we know exactly what we have in the cargo trailer.

Second, Field Days, which was held on June 24th and 25th at the Dickinson Trap club was very well attended.  Chairman Joe Callahan - NØQAU - did an outstanding job and everything went "PERFECT".  We had 37 people signed in for Field Day's of which 26 were hams.  We missed some of the club members who were in Branson, MO for the YL convention, but we still scored 664 points on the QSO"s and 850 bonus points for a total of 1514 points.

Third, some of the members who were in Branson, MO got home just in time to change clothes and head for the International Peace Garden Hamfest which ran from July 6th through the 9th.  I didn't make it up to the Peace Gardens this year, but I hear everyone had a good time and the weather was cooler there than in Dickinson.

Just to keep everyone informed, the TRARC will again be working the Horsefest at Taylor, ND on Saturday, July 29th.  I just hope the weather is cooler the last part of July than it's been during the first two seeks of July.

Remember to mark your calendar's for the Annual TRARC Picnic which will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 12th and 13th at the Dickinson Trap club.  Also, Sam - K7SAM - will be at our annual picnic to check cards for DXCC, VUCC, and WAS.

The Trivia question for the month is: "For which of the following measurements would you normally use a multimeter?"  This will be answered in next month's newsletter.  Hoping we get some cooler weather and hope to see you at our August 7th meeting.

You've heard the old refrain "where have all the flowers gone?" Mine these days is "where has the summer gone?" It seems to have gone by in a flash once May was here.  First came the preparations for our Branson trip, then the Peace Gardens and before we knew it the events had come and gone and all that is left are memories. It was a great adventure and we had a lot of fun.

I understand the Field Day Crew enjoyed an immense success for their efforts too.  This is great and it goes to prove that if you set your mind to something and have good direction coupled with teamwork, great things happen. Congratulations and thanks to Dick and Joe and all who participated in any way.

Nowadays the big news is the heat. I heard a remark that went something like this " it's hot all over and were burning up, literally". It makes one cringe to hear the rumble of thunder because the ever dangerous lightning is near. There has been a vast amount of fires already caused by lightning.  If copious amounts of rain would fall it wouldn't be so bad.  Unfortunately this year that has not happened yet.

So now we march on towards the Taylor Horsefest and our Annual Picnic.  Before we know it we'll be wishing we'd have some of the heat back, however, for now it is tough for some to get through this spell.  Keep Cool!  This will soon be a memory too!
