PRESIDENTS CORNER

The summer is going too fast, some great events are going on.  First there was Field Day.  A good time was had by all that were there.  We made around 690 contacts, but more important was that we all refreshed our ability to set up and operate our equipment with emergency power.  We did have a few new people show up also.  Thanks to all that participated.

Thanks to Curtis, KCØJVJ for heading up the group for the annual 4th of July parade.  A good group showed up to help and it was much appreciated.  The Ham fest at the peace gardens was good. Attendance was down a little but we have had less.  The superintendent joined us this year and had a nice slide show for us about the Peace Gardens. And congratulations to Emil, NØDK, voted Ham Of The Year.

The Glacier Waterton Hamfest was also nice this year.  Great weather and no mosquitoes.  They had around 386 register.  Was nice to visit with some of the folks we have not seen for some time.

We will have the Taylor Horsefest parade to do next.  I am sure that we will have a nice turnout to help with their parade.

Our Picnic will be coming up soon. Hope to see all friends we have not seen for awhile.

DK4HB, Rolf from Hamburg Germany spent two days with us. We had a great time.  He met all the gang at coffee and enjoyed a good steak at the Elks.  We also took in the Medora Musical.  Had a nice chat with Rolf after he was home and he wanted to thank all of you for a good time, and commented on your great hospitality.

Everyone have a great summer, great contacts and good health. Stay Safe. God Bless

Margaret's Corner

June and July have been very busy months.  It's hard to believe that the year has gone by so fast and sad to see that the ham activities will soon be winding down.
On June 9th, Rolf Blauert, WK4HB, from Hamburg Germany graced us with his presence.  Bill, KØUB, was a gracious host and showed Rolf around the area.  We all enjoyed visiting with Rolf.  Larry, WD4CEB, from Plentywood was in the area so joined us at the Elks on Thursday night and again for coffee at Arby's Friday morning.  On June 14th, Wayne, KBØFVV and Joy, NØRYC, from Mandan joined the group for coffee and later in the week Bert, N1MXO, stopped by.  It's always a pleasure to chat with these folks.
Emil and I took our trip to Nashville for the YLISSB convention.  We enjoyed five days of sightseeing and meeting over 100 members from all over and just taking in the  convention.  Emil presented a bid to bring the convention to North Dakota next year, which was accepted by the board.  It was good to get back home but would not have traded the experience of seeing the clouds that we did on our approach into Nashville.  the clouds were awesome and all I could say was "WOW".  What a sight, up close and personal.  It is amazing how something so beautiful could be so destructive at times.
Due to other commitments we could not participate in the Rough Riders Day Parade on July 3rd.  They had a good - no rain.  On July 4th we did receive some needed rain.  I understand the fireworks display in Dickinson was not hampered by the rain and was great and presented on schedule.  Next came the usual migration towards the Peace Gardens where we were greeted by Olli and Lynda, our campground hosts, and tons of mosquitoes.  In the evening John McQueen, the Executive Director of the Gardens, would drop by.  He wanted to experience the Hamfest first hand so he brought his camper out and parked in the overflow area, joining us most evenings for Happy Hour.  He also came to the dance Saturday night where the group   got him involved in the Chicken Dance.  Both Olli and Lynda and John and Mary are super people and have done a lot to better the Park.
Wednesday afternoon Bonnie, WBØJGM, was the recipient of a surprise 70th birthday party during Happy Hour.  Cake and Ice Cream was served in addition to the usual goodies.  Thursday we were greeted by showers on and off.  John McQueen save the 50th Anniversary celebration planned for John, WØOSP, and Bonnie by allowing us to have Happy Hour in the lodge.  He then presented a slide show of the Peace Gardens later that evening.  Registration began on Friday and on Saturday, Stan and company had the screen tent and a new table for their registration site at the entrance to the campground.  the number of registrants was down but all seemed to have a good time.
This year several of our members won prizes. Irene, alias LUCKY, won a Dual Band Handheld (one of the big prizes). Bonnie, KBØNVU, won an analyzer. Ed, WAØSXP, won an Atomic Clock and Luke, KCØPNO, won a handheld receiver.  As usual there was a number of groceries left from breakfast and names were drawn for there.  Kim, NØQAV got coffee.  Joe, NØQAU - eggs.  Betty, KBØNVT - bread.  Tony, K7TNY - eggs and Rebekah - eggs.
Among some of the raffle prizes that were won, a small parts case and cassette player with headphones by Stan and a ballerina bear by me.  Awards were given to Mark, KBØOAJ, for first place in the Quick Left Foot contest.  Luke, KCØPNO won first place for the Homebrew contest and youngest ham.  Ed, WAØSXP, won the oldest ham and Emil, NØDK, received the US Ham OF The Year.
Congratulations to all the winners!  Those who went home on Sunday with tents and pop-up campers lucked out.  During the night a storm came up with thunder, lightning and heavy winds and rain the left Olli and Lynda's screen tent shattered and trees and branches down in the park.  Fortunately no one was hurt.  Next comes the Taylor Horse fest followed by the club picnic in August so we still have a little to look forward to before all winds down.  Here's hoping all are having a good time now and have a great rest of the summer.
