In the 50's the area ham radio operators felt a need for a club where they could share ideas, help each other with setting up stations, plus general operations as well as enjoying the fellowship of like minded individuals. Lowell Britton / WØNPQ took care of the paperwork and called all of the hams for the first meeting. On Feb. 20, 1958 the club was organized at that meeting.

Officers were:
President:  Otto Ficek / KØIAB
Vice President:  Wally Beaudion / WØNAD
Secretary/Treasurer:  Al Tuhy /KØHCY
Activities Manager:  Mark Tollefson / WØZCM
Publicity Chairman:  Ben Lackert / KØAZX.

At the March meeting the name of the club was voted on. The club had 17 members by May and was affiliated with ARRL. Dues were $1.00 per year and early meetings were held in the basement coffee room in KDIX as well as in homes of the members.

In the 46 years that the TRARC has been in existence it has grown to more than 100 members. It sponsors six repeaters, a UHF backbone system, 2 digipeaters, APRS
and a high speed packet in the near future.
