Here is how to test transistors with an ordinary VOM.  By using these
charts you should be able to identify the transistor type (NPN or PNP);
the transistor's emitter, base, and collector; and the transistors
condition (good, bad, weak).  Simply connect the VOM probe (polarity) as
indicated by the chart.  These test should function well with most
general purpose and power transistors.
(Red= + positive, Black= - negative)
