The Technician License is the
entry level Ham Radio license. It requires knowledge of basic
electronics, simple operating procedures, and the FCC rules for Ham
Radio. You have to pass a 35 multiple choice question test base
on a standardized
question
pool. While some people just learn this all on their own, it
is often easier to learn in a class. This will be a class based
on the
ARRL materials.
So the details are:
Class Dates:
Wednesday evenings from Feb 2, 2011 through April 6, 2011.
We may skip
March 23 if too many people are on spring break.
Time: 6 pm
through 8 pm, until 8:30 if you want to do CW (Morse code)
Materials: The book
we will use will be:
http://www.arrl.org/shop/Ham-Radio-License-Manual-Revised-2nd-Edition/
Costs $29.95. It covers the new question pool.
Supplementary materials (not
required): CW practice CD set is
http://www.arrl.org/shop/Your-Introduction-to-Morse-Code-audio-CDs/
Costs
$12.95. Note that this would be for practice at home.
They will not be used in class.
We will also use a freeware
CW practice program, probably MorseCat.
http://www.morsecat.de/index.html
It says it works on XP and should work on Vista. It seems to work on
Windows 7 and Vista. Code practice material using this program
will be posted on this web page.
