Mongolian Railway's history
goes back to 1938, when the first railway of some 33 kilometers and gauge
of 750 mm was build from Ulaanbaatar to the coal mine at Nalaikh.
Mongolian Railway provides an
important and vital link in the international transportation network, and
presently operates approximately 1815 route kilometers, comprising of the
"Trans-Mongolian Main Line" and the "Provincial East Line".
Mongolian Railway is the countries
leading transporter accounting for more than 90 percent of freight turnover
of all types of general purpose transport and about 50 percent of the passenger
turnover. |
