To Jersey City Amateur Radio Club....

We had eight hams on hand for our first meeting (all are pictured in the photo below except for Hector -- we will have to catch him at our next meeting, tentatively set for Sunday, October 14th):

Above are Max (N2UVF), Charlie (KB2SDP), Frank (KB2TNH), Stan (KB2FY), Rich (WB2CRD), John (KE2ZZ), and Tom (KC2GYN). Not shown is Hector (WB2TSH).

Our group working on agenda items....

The meeting resulted in our confirming that the club's purpose is to 1) supply the Red Cross and other relief agencies with emergency communications, and 2) to share the company of individuals with similar interests, namely, the exploration of all aspects of amateur radio. In support of part 1 of our purpose, Rich collected and transmitted to Claudio Perez the Red Cross Volunteer Applications of all present who had not already submitted applications.

We also decided to:

* Meet monthly, alternating our meeting dates between Sundays and weekdays to accommodate various schedules.

* Offer ham radio classes and licensing sessions, with Rich to serve as lead publicist.

* Re-examine the installation of the permanent base station, with regard to lightning protection.

* Affiliate with ARES, RACES, and MARS, with Max serving as Emergency Coordinator since he has had experience in ARES before. Max took the ARES applications of all present (except Rich's, whose application to ARES was already made) for processing.

* Incorporate as a nonprofit corporation and seek insurance protection, because our affiliation with Red Cross will not cover our non-Red-Cross activities such as licensing classes. Rich nominated Frank to be President of the corporation when it is formed, with Stan as Vice President. The paperwork will be drawn up for the next meeting.

* Use the Red Cross for mailing address, phone, and answering service.

* Seek to integrate the repeater of the defunct Bayonne Emergency Management Amateur Radio Club into JCARC, and link it to the Jersey City repeater on 145.310 MHz for additional area coverage. A suggestion to begin using the 145.310 repeater was accepted.

* Establish a club radio license. Rich recommended that the trustee be an Extra class licensee, with the person to be named at a later meeting after the paperwork is drawn up.

* Reimburse John (KE2ZZ) at a later date for his purchase of 100 feet of coaxial line.

On the 8th, Bob Cirri, KA2OTD, had the following e-mail comment about our former on-the-air meeting frequency:

Rich I just remembered the 146.52 is the national calling freq. I think it would be better to try 146.535,147.54,146.580 or something like that.

The club will decide which frequency to use as its official simplex frequency at a later date.

Tom and Rich asked everyone to keep Bob, a Port Authority Police Department Lieutenant involved in rescue efforts at the World Trade Center, in their thoughts.

John referred two out-of-town hams who wanted to volunteer for the New York rescue effort to the Red Cross for assignment....

Again, next meeting is tentatively set for October 14th. We hope to see more of you then.
