The regular annual meeting and banquet of the Juneau Amateur Radio
Club will be concluded Saturday Evening at St Brendan’s Church at 7:00
PM, January 13, 2007.
In Brief:
· Our
application to the IRS for Section 501C3 non-profit status has been
approved effective when the Club was organized in 1967. See
story.
· The
annual meeting of the JARC will resume at St. Brendan’s Church on January
13th. The meeting will follow our
banquet. See story.
· Because
the annual banquet will be held in January, we will not
hold a monthly meeting on Wednesday evening January
3rd.
· Morse
Code will no longer be required for any amateur radio licenses. The
new FCC rule is expected to take effect in February 2007. This will
be a great time to upgrade!
November Meeting
Highlights:
· The
Club Officers were authorized to spend $750 for the annual Club banquet
including prizes, rental of the Hall and cost of the prime rib.
· The
Club authorized Mike Caughran to send $100 to QSL.net to cover expenses
for the Club web site.
· Jerry
Prindle was authorized to spend $750 for new receivers to upgrade the
links for our repeater sites.
· Field
Day results were in the latest QST Magazine. The JARC made a very
respectable showing. We scored 2,224 points. We were in the
top 25% in Class 1A. Our nearest competition in Alaska (Class 1A)
was the Arctic ARC with 1,028 points. We need to start looking into
a new location for next year since the lot next to the Fire School has
been sold. Give us your ideas.
· A
VE session was held in October. With two new hams in Skagway.
· We
have two new members, Jim Craig (KL1ZO) and Andy Clark (KB1IPW).
Non-Profit Status: Wayne Longacre reports that the IRS has
approved our application for Exemption under Section 501(c)(3) of the
Internal Revenue code. Our non-profit status dates from April 21,
1967 when the Club was formed. The IRS was prompt in their
processing of our application. Now that we have received non-profit
status, the Club will be able to receive gifts as a non-profit
corporation.
Annual Meeting and Banquet: Our Annual Banquet will
begin at 6:30 on January 13, 2007 with a social hour followed by Jerry’s
famous prime rib dinner at 7:00 PM. The Club will furnish the main
course, drinks and condiments. We ask attendees to bring a side
dish, salad, bread or dessert. This has worked well in the
past. If you can’t bring anything that’s okay as there will be
plenty of food. All members and their guests are welcome. You
can pay your 2007 dues at the door if you haven’t already paid up.
This is a great opportunity to see people that you haven’t seen in a long
time and find out what is going on. There will be door prizes for
members attending and a special prize for all members including those
paid up members who couldn’t make it to the meeting. You should try
your best to make it to the meeting. If you would like to run
for office please contact Sam Smith at 780-6676 or Jack Gregson at
364-2773.
Following the banquet, at about 8 PM, we will resume our Annual
Meeting. This is very important as we will elect officers for next
year. We will also discuss plans for 2007 including how best to
utilize the generous gifts of radio equipment from the estates of Tad
Fujioka (SK) and Harold Hogberg (SK). Some of the radio equipment
will be on display at the meeting.
If you have anything that you would like to sell, you can bring it to the
banquet. We’ll set up tables for your use.
The Club will bring a sampling of the equipment recently donated by the
estates of Tad Fujioka and Harold Hogberg. We would appreciate any
ideas that you might have regarding the disposition of this equipment.
At 3:00 PM we will hold a VE exam for new hams or for upgrading. If
you would like to take an exam please contact Jerry Prindle at
789-7291.
We are also inviting licensed hams that are not currently members to have
dinner with us.
Wednesday Lunchtime Meetings: We’ve been having 8 to 10
members at our Wednesday lunch meetings. The informal lunch meetings
continue to take place at the Atrium eating area in the Jordan Creek Mall
at noon every Wednesday. Bring your lunch.

Rob Kindred is handling membership duties for Bob Simpson. As
of the May meeting we had about 50 paid members for 2006.
Membership information is available at meetings and on-line at
www.qsl.net/jarc.

the door prizes.

- Juneau Amateur Radio Club

- Juneau, Alaska 99803-5484
- Attn: Treasurer
The Club needs your active participation and dues.
ARES Activities: We need more
participation in the
ARES Net that meets on the Mt Roberts repeater each Tuesday at 7PM.
It only takes about 10 minutes and provides good practice for any events
that could overwhelm our community. The Northern Southeast Alaska
Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) net operates with good
participation from Haines, Gustavus, and Juneau. The purposes of
this net are to check on the readiness of ARES members and their
equipment, to make announcements pertaining to amateur radio, to conduct
informal training and to give members experience in managing a net. All
are welcome to check in. We hope to see you on the radio!
Tell us your new E-mail Address: Sam Smith, KL0KZ, our Newsletter
editor has been sending out our Newsletters electronically to the 90
percent of our membership who use Email. Please contact Sam at
ssmith@ptialaska.net if you obtain a new e-mail address.
The Newsletter: The Editor of your Newsletter continues to
search for interesting information from Club members that can be used in
the Newsletter. We are frequently able to include articles and
information by Club members, which are far more interesting than the
usual dry information produced by the editor. If you have time to
put something together that would interest the membership, please send by
e-mail to
ssmith@ptialaska.net.
We will edit it for you; so don’t hesitate to send something to us.
The appropriate length is less than one page.
Club Web Site: The Club’s website is
www.qsl.net/jarc.
The site is maintained by Mike Caughran. An archive of past
Newsletters, Club Minutes and ARES information are available on the
site. It also provides excellent exposure for selling used radio
equipment.
Repeater Status: Following is the status of repeaters in the
Juneau area, which are available for use by Club members and out of town
guests. For additional information on the Club’s network of
