“Hike
to Miner Vincent's Cabin”
by
Philipp Schultz
Hi! My name is “Philipp Schultz”! I’m going to talk about the hike to Miner Vincent’s cabin on Sunday, September 2, 2002. First, my family and some other people got on a trail and walked on it for a while. It was all downhill to Miner Vincent’s cabin.
I had fun picking choke cherries. They weren’t that sweet, but they were good. I saw all kinds of neat stuff on the trail. I saw trees with sap all over them, flowers, pine needles and bugs.
Then, we all turned onto a different trail. It wasn’t really a trail , it was more like a walkway to me. When everyone got in the cabin, we saw Miner Vincent waiting for us. He told everyone how he got bags of cement up to his cabin to make the floor -- he used his donkey, Josephine, to carry the bags of cement up from Los Angeles, one bag at a time!
He also showed everyone some “bear dung” (bear poop) that had berries in it!. Then, he asked all the children if they wanted to go on a treasure hunt and find gold. All the children said, “Yes!” He told us that there were four pieces of his gold missing. I looked all over, but did not find any gold. Oh! I also got to see his gun!
When it was time
to go ,we hiked up the trail, got into our cars and drove home.
Before we got home, though, my family went to Grassy Hollow Visitor
Center. When we got to Grassy
Hollow we went in and bought postcards. Then,
we went home . I had fun at Miner
Vincent’s cabin!
