Coltano (PI) Int.Marconi Day 21 Aprile 2001 |
IY5PIS International Marconian Station |
|
|
|
On April 21st, 2001 it was the
International Marconi Day. The Marconian station IY5PIS in Coltano (Pisa)
partly fell short of our expectations. The temperature was constantly under
10°C, the wind was blowing hard and showers of rain limited our program. Pics show some moments of Sun. |

We often had to move the pylons, because we had to
guarantee the safety for the operators. After many troubles we decided to
transmit using auto-built aerials that need very simple installation. In the picture is represented one of the aerials for
10-15-20 m that was used by phone. This choice influenced the output
of the plant. We couldn't even use the 50Mhz, apart from the one contact we
had early in the morning; on the contrary we had a lot of contacts in CW. We worked four stations, one in HF, two in CW and
another one for the QRP, and they were often suspended because of bad the
weather conditions. There were few "lovely" contacts (DX):
there weren't many Americans, there were very few Japanese and even in Europe
we couldn't get a complete pile up of contacts. |
|
|
|
When the sun peeped out from behind the clouds we
quickly dry the rtx and we move them to more suitable places for the Dx, but
this last attempt was difficult too, as shown in some of these pictures. The one on the left is particularly interesting in
showing one of the Morse stations settled down at the entrance of the ancient
Marconian building: it is now completely abandoned. |
