In 1994 I was one of the OM that constitued the A.R.I. Section of Busto Arsizio, the local branch of Italian Radioamateur Association.

Busto Arsizio, my town, is lying at the foot of the Alpine Range, in the River Po Plain. About 78,000 people live in it. It was founded by the Celts in the 5th Century B.C. Then it was occupied by the Romans and after the fall of Roman Empire, it was a Longobard village for long time. The composed name Busto Arsizio comes from the Latin burere (to burn) and from the old german hard (that here meant iron) So that Bustum Hardicium became Busto Arsizio and in the name there is the story of our primary production: the iron wire. In the middle age started the textile industry. The man in the photo on my QSL card is Enrico Dell'Acqua, a pioneer of Textile Industry: he brought our technology and our know-how in South America and founded many factories.

Here is our award: The W.A.I.S.: Worked All Italian Squares.

It is a square-oriented award, similar to british WAB and Holyland from Israel. The italian territory has been divided into 1487 small squares. To get the award it is necessary to have contacted and confirmed by QSL card at least 100 of them. A proper software will help you to manage this Award, and it can also print the application form for you, ready to send to the Award Manager, IK2UVR. Looks nice? Yes it is a golden aluminium sheet, colour serigraphed, and it will come to your QTH with your callsign engraved on it ! Would you like to know more about this very nice metallic award?
