ILERA ESPERANTO Contest
Objective: To make known Esperanto to other hams and shortwave listeners and to show how much fun Esperanto can be. Indeed this is the safest way to hear Esperanto on the air. Esperantists are by far more active here than anywhere else. It's not like a classical contest, expect no more than a few dozen contacts in 48 hours, only the very enthusiastic reach a hundred contacts. Try 14266 kHz first since it is the most active frequency. The contest is also a good opportunity to collect points for the Esperanto Award.
Date/Time: To be held every year third weekend in November, 0000 UT Sat. - 2400 UT on Sun. (20 hours of QRX required).
Category: single operator, multi band, all help tools are allowed. Unlike in other popular contests skeds via fone, echolink, skype, email, mail, or whatever are allowed and welcome.
QRGs: Use all bands and modes except WARC. The same station may be worked once per band. 3.766 / 7.066 / 14.266 / 21.266 / 28.766 MHz, are probably the centers of Esperanto activity. In CW the usual sked QRGs are 1833, 3566, 7066, 14066, 21066, 28066. HOWEVER: 3566 and 14066 are not desired as contest frequencies according to the IARU band plan. Check 3556 and 14056 instead. (unofficial recommendation of the author). Don't expect much activity in CW, only a handful of Esperantists are known to be CW enthusiasts.
Scoring: Each contact counts one point. The present manager of the contest DL1CC counts Echolink (a popular VoIP system for hams) as if it were an additional "band". However, since Echolink takes away much of the radio sport idea there will be a listing with and without Echolink QSOs. If you are interested in Echolink you are recommended to include the string ESPERANTO in the station description. Check the Internet for available listings of known Esperanto speakers on Echolink. Make sure to avoid repeaters and radio links in order not to conflict with IARU rules about contesting. If you succeed in having an Echolink contact use it to get a sked in your favorite mode. Check contest directories for competing contests and use Echolink in times when the competing contests cause too much QRM.
Exchange: RS and serial number starting 001 PREFERABLY in the ESPERANTO language. Note: All you have to know are the numbers is Esperanto: 1=unu, 2=du, 3=tri, 4=kvar, 5=kvin, 6=ses, 7=sep(en), 8=ok, 9=nau, 10=dek (Pronounce: oonoo, doo, tree, quaar, quinn, ses, sep, ock, now, deck, ... sorry, this is just an unscientific approximation). Just for the records: ESPERANTO use is recommended but not required for valid contacts. Any language is fine, even the mere number exchange in CW, PSK, RTTY, or any other non-voice mode is ok.
Logs must show: time UT, call, sent and received RS(T) and serial numbers.
Entries should be sent to the manager - PLEASE send them even if you just make a single contact: Look up DL1CC in callbooks or other popular sources.
