The OPC-118 Adapter Cable: Connecting the IC-2KL and AT-500 to DIN ACC sockets

By Adam Farson, VA7OJ/AB4OJ
To interface the IC-2KL and/or AT-500 to a modern Icom exciter fitted with DIN ACC(1) and ACC(2) sockets, you will need an OPC-118 or equivalent adapter cable (female 24-pin Molex to male ACC1 & ACC2).

If you wish to make up your own cable, the interconnections are given in Table 1. The ACC(2) plug is a male 7-pin DIN, and the accessory plug for the 2KL is a 24-pin Molex (male if plugged into the _C-2KL, female if plugged into the IC-2KL control cable.)

Table 1: ACC(2) to Molex interconnections.
ACC 2 Pin  Molex Pin Description Remarks
1 12 8V Band Ref.
2 8 GND
3 3 SEND
4 13 0 ~ 8V BAND
5 7 ALC Mandatory
6 NC TRV Not used
7 NC +13.8V Not used

The IC-2KL and AT-500 user manuals and other documents are downloadable on this site.. The ACC (1) and ACC(2) pinouts of the Pro are shown in the respective radio's user manual.

If your IC-2KL lacks 10/12m, the required mod kit may still be available from Icom. The enabling procedure is included in the downloadable IC-2KL document package; it is a 6-hour job.

The AT-500 autotuner is an ideal companion to the IC-2KL. I had an IC-2KL/AT-500 pair in my station for 10 years; they worked flawlessly.
