Spectran beta 4
Prerequisites
Back to Main Page Spectran has been designed to overcome the main (and frustrating...) limitation of Hamview, i.e. the need for a true Sound Blaster 16 audio card. This card is almost disappeared from the market, and the new Creative PCI cards are completely different beasts, whose hardware specs are near to impossible to obtain.

For this reason we decided to write a new version of Hamview, which is now called Spectran, that relies exclusively upon WIndows to interface the sound card. So any card supported by Windows, and capable of full duplex operation, is suited for Spectran.

What you need is :

  • A PC with Windows 95/98, the faster the better.  If you want to use all the audio processing functions simultaneously, you need at least a 200MHz Pentium.

  •
  • An audio card supported by Windows, and capable of full duplex (almost any card sold today is).

  •
  • A display with 1024 x 768 resolution, 65536 or more colors.
  •

  • The program should work also with 640 x 480,   800 x 600  and 256 colors, albeit some palette artifacts show up when working with 256 colors only. We recommend at least the HiColor mode, i.e. 65536 colors

Please test Spectran Beta 4 on you PC and let us know how it worked for you. Thanks
