The AR-147 is the successor to the highly successful AR-146 from ADI. It has a maximum output power of 50W, 80 memories plus one call channel and a very sensitive receiver. Built-in 1750Hz access tone for repeater operation (1450 and 2100Hz also selectable) and DTMF with matching DTMF microphone. Full Auto CTCSS is provided, and this means that it is able to access all the UK and European repeaters fitted with CTCSS.  The AR-147 is certainly a well designed and rugged transceiver from a company well experienced in building commercial equipment. Readout is in channel numbers, repeater shift is automatic and you can listen on the repeater input by pressing a front-panel button. To access the tone-burst you simply double press the mic PTT button.

The AKD 4001 is a low cost rig specifically designed for use on 4m. In the past 4m operation was obtained by either modifying ex AM PMR equipment or buying expensive transverters - some of which are no longer available. The rig comes with a useful 25W, 20 channels and 12.5kHz channel spacing. Powered from an external 13.8V DC supply, it can either be used as a mobile or base station rig. Supplied as standard with a fist type microphone with 4- pin mic. connector and DC power lead.

The AKD 6001 is a low cost rig specifically designed for use on 6m. This band is only just opening up and being used as an alternative to 2m and 70cm. It is the lowest of the VHF bands and has great potential for long distance communications as well as for local contacts. The rig comes with a useful 25W, 120 channels and 10kHz channel spacing. The IC-706MkIIG is the enhanced version of this popular HF/VHF mobile rig. It has more features but in the same physical size. New features include 70cm UHF band, extended receive to 470MHz. Power has been increased to 50W on 2m and 20W on 70cm as well as narrow FM capability with the FM deviation set for 2.5kHz, ideal for the new 12.5kHz channel spacings. The TM-D700E is a 50/35W 2m/70cm dual band transceiver that features a built-in TNC and a 9-pin data port ready for connection to your PC or laptop. The front panel is a separate unit that connect back to the main body via the supplied cable. It also features ARPS for displaying position information of other users and if you connect the NMEA data output from a GPS receiver, your position information will also be transmitted. For the modern band plan, you also get switched deviation for 12.5kHz and 25kHz channel spacings. DX enthusiasts will love the DX cluster direct readout - no need for PC connection! The TM-742E is Kenwood¡¯s FM multibander. Fitted with 2m and 70cm as standard, it can receive three bands simultaneously with the addition of one of three optional FM band units 28MHz (50W), 50MHz (50W) and 1200MHz (10W). It has separate antenna and speaker terminals for each band, as well as separate Vol, Sql and memory channels. For low power operations there are also 5 and 10W settings (1W for 1200MHz).

The FT-90R Micro Commander from Yaesu is the world¡¯s smallest high-power dual- band mobile. The FT-90R provides 50W of power on 2m and 35W on 70cm, the package only just measures 100x30x138mm. Cooling is achieved by using the diecast chassis as a heat sink plus a microprocessor-controlled cooling fan. The Mico Commander¡¯s receiver front-end utilizes a GaAs MES FETdevice for greater sensitivity and noise immunity. Besides coverage of the 2m and 70cm amateur bands, the FT-90R receiver provides extended coverage of 100-230, 300-530 and 810-999MHz. There is a built-in AM detector allowing clean monitoring of the aircraft band.
