Though many of the stations have changed name, stations (and even countries) have disappeared, certificates and QSL cards turned into brownish yellow, I believe that the below certificates should be saved and remembered. Indeed, not long ago there were times when we did not hear crystal clear signals via satellites or Internet Real Audio but had to pick up extremely week ones via Short Wave if we wanted to know what was going on in the world.
Another aspect to club memberships and sending in regular reception reports is that mailing charges have increased drastically throughout the world. In my country, for instance, the cost of sending out an air mail letter went up by almost twenty times in the past ten years (salaries did not)... In order to meet ends we have to work far more than ever before which takes most of our energy and thus very little remains for hobbies of the past.
But radio stations had to reduce their expenses on different kinds of materials, as well, so it's less and less rewarding to be an active frequency monitor. Perhaps the Internet can be a media to forward reception reports more quickly at a bargain price.
