There were enough last minute church groups volunteering to cover all but about 5 deliveries for tomorrow.If you would like to show up to help Nancy, that would be fine, but we will not have an organized effort.

Also reported was that there will be a huge number of Christmas deliveries on Saturday, December 19th. Please try to show up then if you possibly can.

HCARES & HRACES November 21st Food Delivery

             at Clover Rd & Pleasant St., Noblesville
When: 8 AM to Noon, November 21, 2009

The annual food delivery assistance for Thanksgiving will occur on Saturday, November 21, 2009.

Each year HCARES& HRACES members assemble to gather loads of food items to be
delivered in their vehicles to needy families in Hamilton County. Also, many
volunteers are needed to assist in the unloading of large trucks and the
delivery of the food stuffs to large housing developments in Noblesville.

Times are from 8:00 a.m. until noon or later, depending on number of
volunteers and workload. Meet at the Hamilton Co. Fairgrounds, east side of the large main building. Net Control will be set up inside the loading area at a table and will have assignment sheets and maps available. Check in on 145.170 MHz - (PL 77 Hz) repeater.

Please join us in this important service to our community.

**Mandatory Training**
Dave Bice, EM Director , has clarified the mandatory training requirements . IS-700 (Required for EMA volunteers) ICS-100 (Required for EMA volunteers) The only way to remain active as an EMA volunteer is to have on file at the EMA office your completed training certificates. Even though ICS-200 is not required "at this time", Dave suggests taking this course. The training is online and free at http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/

Guidelines for First Aid/CPR Administration

The following is a list of guidelines to be followed by Emergency Management Agency Volunteers in rendering first aid/CPR during an event which the EMA is taking part in:

1) All first aid measures should be done immediately when needed or requested. But these measures will only be done to the level of training in which the volunteer has received.

2) If first aid supplies are not on-hand or you are not comfortable performing the first aid, contact event EMS.

3) Anything more than a minor cut or scratch will be reported to event EMS.

4) As a minimum the following information will be recorded by the person(s) administering first aid/CPR:

Name(s) of injured person(s)
Parent’s name if patient is a minor
Details about the incident/accident
What kind of treatment was provided
Date/Time treatment provided

5) If the patient is a minor, you must obtain consent to treat the child from one of his or her parents or an adult who has been left in charge of that child. Consent is not needed if child is incapacitated in some way (unconscious, etc) or if it is an emergency.

6) Once EMS arrives on scene, patient information will immediately be passed onto them. At that time, all patient care will be turned over to EMS unless they ask for your assistance.

7) No over the counter drugs shall be dispensed to the general public at any time (i.e. - Tylenol, aspirin, cold meds, etc.)

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS

In the eyes of the law, assistance given by first aiders to ill or injured people is expected to be given to the level of their competence. The general legal principle is that the first aiders are expected to act reasonably and prudently with a genuine concern for the best interests of the victim.
Persons administering first aid have nothing to fear as long as they act reasonably, with caution and follow accepted teaching and protocols.

This Newsletter is for the members of Hamilton County Radio Amateur Communication Emergency Service (RACES). The Newsletter is made available to members during the 3^rd week of each month.
