April 5, 2008   HCARES Meeting Notes

  1. The meeting was held at the EMA building in Noblesville and started at 9:00 AM by Jerry Hill, W9CZW.
  2. Field Day: We will have two stations like the other years. The site for field day has been reserved. The trailer will probably need to be picked up. Jerry Hill or Steve Quear may have to pick up the trailer. Ron Sans will bring in his FT-990. We expect to have the site open for the 24 hours.
  3. The Sam Costa run was discussed and lessons learned were also discussed.
  4. The May meeting has been cancelled. There will be CPR training in the Cicero fire department at 8:00 on that day. All HCARES members are welcome to come. In August we may be going to the National Weather Service
  5. Discussed idea for topics for the meeting. Discussed having a fox hunt and having someone give a demo on how to make some of the equipment. We also discussed the Amateur TV (ATV) setup demo. We suggested putting a repeater on top f the Carmel St Vincent’s Hospital which is 100 feet above Noblesville. It was also suggested that we have a time set up when we bring in our "stuff" to establish what types of equipment that may be available. Slow scan video was also brought up as an option. Another idea was having someone discuss the software radio’s. APRS was also discussed as an option. Russ Simpson offered to come to the October meeting with a demo on ATV. Eric Eilers, K9ZX, was volunteered to look into DFing as an option. September might be a good time for Eric to do this. We might ask Jack Parker, W8ISH, to get a tour of the channel 8 transmitter. A discussion of Mobile antennas would also be helpful. What kind of antennas do we need for a car. Get a DX contester to discuss what is going on with DX. We might take a tour of the jail.
  6. We discussed how to get new Amateur Radio operators to locate this club. We may need to increase the presence of the contacts on our Web Site. We thought that we might look into locating new Ham’s that were just recently licensed.
  7. The Meeting was adjourned at 11:03 AM
