About 11 a.m. the gang began showing up at Ralph's, N3KZS, place. We sat on the deck enjoying cool drinks until a sizable crowd had gathered. They we descended into the main site of the N3KZS repeater. This includes the North transmit site and the 220 MHz repeater. Then there was all of the stuff that makes the whole system work. There were the transmitters and receivers for the remote site links - 11 of them if I remember correctly. The "voter" to pick which is receiver has the best signal. The IRLP interface and the APRS link and a VoIP link to the Ocean City repeater. Add a computer with a lot of very custom written software. Add a few more neat pieces of equipment. All this is housed in three six foot racks. A very professionally assembled station. Hopefully, Ralph will soon have a website set up to properly describe the repeater and its operation.
By then the aroma of the BBQ chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers lured us back to the deck. We ate well, but that is expected in this club. Later a group was able to waddle out to inspect the 130 foot tower. There must be a dozen antennas on it - all necessary to make the repeater work.
It was a very good day. Thanks Ralph.
