August 2007 Club Meeting

Thursday.   August 9,   2007.

Andy,   AF3I, was our featured speaker.   He put on a great program about VHF / UHF Operating and Contesting.

August 2007 Meeting

Andy explained all of the various modes of propagation on these frequencies.   Then he explained how FM,   SSB,   CW and a host of digital modes fit into the picture.   Contests are fun because there are lots of other people on the bands for you to work.
August 2007 Meeting

Notice that everyone has a plate.   That is because we figured that the steamed spiced shrimp (honest) would not be good after the presentation.   So we ate shrimp and listened to Andy.
August 2007 Meeting

Andy concluded his talk with a proposal that we make a club entry in the next VHF contest.   You can operate from home,   portable or as a "rover."   Rovers are what they call mobiles in a VHF contest.   Search the web for something like "VHF rover" and see what pops up.   Any mode and any band from 50 MHz to Light will work.   Afterwards,   the scores of all of the individual entries are added together as our club score.   Then we can see how much better we are than the other local clubs.   Or,   maybe they are better than us.   If interested,   contact Andy or leave a message on the club e-mail reflector.
