What Happened
at the May Meeting

Thursday.   May 11,   2006.

Our liability insurance has gone through a confusing series of changes.   It now turns out that the company is still doing business in this area and a new agent has been appointed.   Our insurance will be renewed on schedule and probably at the previous rates.   In short - it is the same as before.

Field Day plans have undergone another major change.   It turns out that some of the BARC members will be joining us.  With the increased number of operators,   we are now talking in terms of two HF stations and a VHF/UHF station.   The satellite station may be separate or may use the VHF/UHF station.   There are no plans for a GOTA station.   However,   it is encouraging to note that there will be several new contest operators.   We plan to pair them up with experienced operators for an "OJT" course in contesting.   Other plans are very much in a state of flux right now.   Check the Field Day page on the club web site.   As the plans come together, we will keep that page up to date.

The balloon antenna is the new and fascinating experiment added this year.   We will try pull up a half wavelength vertical for the 80 meter band.   Might give it a try on 160 meters also.

We have has no volunteers for the bonus stations.   This includes APRS,   packet node,   SSTV and ATV.  An "alternative power" station would fit here also.   If interested, contact the Field Day Chairman.

The club picnic will be held the same Saturday as Field Day.   Bring the family.   The club will furnish the food and drinks.   All you need to do is show up and enjoy.   Plan on it.
