What Happened
at the August Meeting

Thursday.   August 11,   2005.

We had two visitors at the meeting.   Joe,   no license but plans to take the test within a month.   Andy,   whose call I have forgotten - sorry Andy.   Welcome to both.

Bingo went well.   We were short on help all week.   Nevertheless,   the profit for the Fire Company was only slightly less than last year.   More details on the Bingo Report page.   And a very big "Thank You" to the members that helped out.

Just a reminder that the MDC QSO Party is August 13 and 14.   BARC has invited us to join them in the contest at their club station.   More information on the MDC QSO Party page.

Our Mini Tail Gate Fest is fast approaching.   It is Sunday,   August 21.   Mike,   N3KTX,   reported that all was ready.   We just need help early in the morning to get started - VERY EARLY.   The Mini Tail Gate Fest page has all of the information.   Please plan to be there and help out.   We will have coffee and donuts available at 5:30 a.m.   The Chief dropped in and it sounds like the Fire Company will be serving breakfast by 7:00 a.m. - maybe earlier.

The repeater continues to challenge the repair capacity of the repeater group.   The South Transmitter site is out of service for repair.   It is currently spread out on the bench at Ralph's,   N3KZS,   place.   Just to keep the game interesting,   Ralph had a broken water pipe while they were away on vacation.   So add a weeks worth of water to the problem.   The Main repeater site was not affected.   It is just that this problem had to be handled before work on the repeater could continue.   Repeater repairs continue.   Meanwhile,   we are "limping" along on the North transmitter and the Frederick transmitter.   The status of the automatic transmitter switching is unknown.

The club APRS digi has been overhauled,   updated,   modified and streamlined.   It is back in operation at the Fire House.

Bill,   N3WD,   was wearing his "Top Gun" hat he received for having the best mobile antenna at the 3905 Century Club "Eye Ball."   Congratulations Bill.   Those of us with lesser antennas understand what this means.   A picture of Bill displaying his newly awarded trophy is on 3905 Century Club web site.

After the meeting we had refreshments,   got to meet Joe and Andy,   inspect Bill's award winning antenna,   inspect the thoroughly modern APRS Digi and just talk Ham Radio in general.
