It was a rainy night and the turn-out was low. We devoted most of the time to Field Day planning and Bingo planning.
Field Days plans are about on schedule. A lot of work is going on to get all of the equipment checked out and working properly. Most of this being done by members of BARC. Our part of Field Day set-up will be the VHF station. We will have 100 watts on both 6 and 2 meters with medium sized yagi antennas at 50 feet. BARC will set up the two HF stations and the GOTA station. Each station will have its own 50 foot tower. 3 Element yagis will be used for 10, 15 and 20 meters. Dipoles will be used on 40 and 80 meters. Each station will have its own computer for logging. These will all be networked to a server which will maintain the actual log. Neat stuff! Do not forget the big club picnic on Saturday afternoon and evening. Anyone can operate any of the four stations. The only major problem known is that the 2 meter rig refuses to work. A work party is planned for Friday. Also one of the BARC generators refused to emerge from hibernation. Al, KB3ETX, will provide a substitute in known good working condition.
Here are the important reminders: Field Day is June 25 and 26. Contact Bill - N3WD, and let him know two things. (1) When you want to operate. Operators will be scheduled in advance this year. (2) If you will be attending the club picnic. He needs to know how much food to buy. Incidentally, the picnic is a separate club function. Even if you do not participate in Field Day (I have no idea why you would not) come to the picnic anyway. Take a look the Field Day web page. It shows all of the jobs and who is in charge. There are still jobs open. Jump right in.
Bingo planning is not going as smoothly. It is simply the manpower problem. It takes a lot of people and we do not have them. The Fire Company was approached and they do not have them either. At this point we can do little but take what we have and press on. Bingo is the last week in July and we desperately need your help. There are also a couple of questions about how to implement some parts of the bingo law. Al, KB3ETX, will meet with the Fire Company and resolve these.
The really bad news came after the meeting and we learned that there were no refreshments. The person who had planned to bring them was out of town. So we talked a while, played the NY6Q Blues one more time and went home. See you at Field Day.
