What Happened

at the July Meeting

July 8, 2004.   We had our alarmingly small, but typical summertime attendance.

The Chairman of the Field Day Committee was not able to attend,   so a complete report was not available.   All present was aware of the situation,   so little was missed.

Considerable time was devoted to planning for the upcoming Bingo.   It begins Monday,   July 26th and runs for six consecutive nights - only two weeks away.   Manpower is the problem.   So far we do not have enough people to run Bingo on any night.   We need more people!   Joe,   N3MKE,   volunteered to spend the week-end making phone calls to get more helpers on the schedule.   A report will be made to the President on Sunday night.   Further planning will be governed by the known manpower available at that time.

Terry,   N3XBO,   reported on the recent lightning strike to the repeater.   The controller was damaged and will require about $500 of new parts.   Meanwhile,   the backup controller is in use.   This is a less capable controller.   You will notice many features,   including IRLP,   are not available.   Contact any control operator if you have questions.   Several NIC (Network Interface Cards) were lost and at least one computer.

Terry also displayed the portable remote receiver site that the repeater gang has been working on.   It is small and capable piece of equipment.   Neat!

Portable remote receiver site.

Concluding that was enough business for one night,   we turned to refreshments and ragchewing.   Yes,   we had a good time.
