History of Gyömrö

It is known that people were living here since the bronze age since farmers are still finding artefacts dating back 3000 years. In Roman times the town was a stop over on a main trade route with the East. The earliest written records about the town date from 1274. The town is most famous for a speech given there in 1705 by Ferenc Rákóczi II, Prince of Transylvania, during the War of Independence against the Austrians. In 1882 the railway station was built to the north of the town. New roads were built around the new station following a grid system.

The most interesting monuments are the Reformate church, Sad-Madonna, Grof Teleki Castle,
