 The Larry Fawbush Memorial award is presented each year in December to an amateur that exemplifies the spirit of helping fellow amateurs. The award was initiated in March 1993 after a tragic accident claimed the life of Larry Fawbush.

February 4, 2012   HCARES Meeting Notes

HCARES MEETING NOTES 02/04/2012

 

  • The meeting was called to order by Steve Quear, WA9FTT, at Fire Station 6 . at 10:00 AM.

  • Sherrie Vermande, KD5YBP, presented the Treasurer’s report. We have $1435.90 in the account.

  • Sam Costa will be on March 24 and we need about 15 amateur radio operators. . Carmel Marathon will be on April 21 and we need a lot of volunteers.

  • Weather Spotter training will be on March 4th at 9:00 AM at Noblesville City Hall and will last until about 12:00 AM.

  • The American Legion will be sponsoring an event on March 15 – 17th at the national headquarters in Indianapolis. They would like operators. IRLP will be setup through the HCARES repeater. 14.270 MHz will be the frequency.

  • The Packet Workshop will be next week in the Carmel Fire Station headquarters and running from 9:00 AM to noon. Please RXVP to Mike Alley, KC9MSK.

  •  Ideas to attract new members and programs

                 o Bring in calibrated test equipment and have a tune up day.

                 o Have a portable antenna day. Check the portable antennas

                 o Talk about kits that are available to assemble. Perhaps install a kit.

                 o Program on Stealth antennas

                 o Talk on QSL systems

                 o Solar storms and cycles.

                 o How to pinpoint power line interferences

                 o Digital modes and computer programs used for amateur radio use

                 o Classes on obtaining ham radio licenses and CW. Ham radio testing sessions.

                 o Visit to National Weather Service

                 o DX’ing discussion

  • Weather Symposium is at Greenwood on March 11th.

  • Eric Eilers, K9ZX, gave a presentation on Random Wire Antennas.

  • The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 AM.
