The Licenses

There are three amateur radio licenses and each allows you to operate a radio station with various priviliges.

The Foundation License: Enables you to operate a low power (10 watts) commercial (bought ready made) radio and set up your aerials without upsetting the neighbours. Even with this power you can contact other stations overseas. 

The Intermediate License: With the Intermediate License you can operate at powers of up to 50 watts and you are allowed to design and build your own radio equipment if you want to.

The Advanced License: The Advanced License is for those who want to really get to grips with the theory and practice of Radio Communication. This license allows you to use the full permitted power on all bands.
