GW4RWR - Amateur radio station of Rhys Thomas - IO83HE

Introduction:

Hello, these pages are intended to show some of my construction projects. I enjoy making my own radio equipment - design..construct..test..operate..optimise and then break it. I am licenced since 1982, and still find it magical that information can be transported by wireless. To build one's own radio and use it to speak and hear is so much more rewarding than spending hundreds or thousands on a shiny black box.

My main interest is long distance radio propagation at VHF. I'm especially intrigued by tropospheric propagation. This is very weather dependent, so two days are rarely alike.

I received a wonderful gift of an FT-221 from my Dad upon finishing O-levels. £270 was a lot of money then. The '221 was first used for FM, but I soon realised that SSB went a lot further. It was sold before leaving for university. GW4HBZ lent me his FT-101, which I used with dipoles for a few bands. A further present, after A-levels, was GW3RUE's FT-707, which I still use.
