GW4KFD

Personal Info

My name is Barrie Wilson, and the callsign first issued as G4KFD in 1980 was reissued on 1st Sept 1984 as GW4KFD. I was born in LEEDS on the 28th July 1940 and at the moment medically retired.

My First experiences with Amateur Radio were in 1960 whilst stationed in Malta where I joined the RSGB and was given a ZB1 SWL NUMBER on return to the UK I had no contact with other Amateurs until 1979 when I joined the ITN northern News Crew as the Sound Recordist where the Cameraman was a G3 and the Lighting man was a G2 this of course rekindled my interest and I attended the RAE Course at Morcombe Nautical College.

I have been married to Margaret since July 1960. We have two children and five grandchildren only four in the picture here so I cant leave out the latest arrival. So here is Harry taking charge of his Dad.

As you can see from the badge at the top of the page I am member No 3167 of the Royal Signals Amateur Radio Society. Who have a very interesting Web Page you may wish to visit RSARS.

I Served in the Royal Marines from January 1958 until July 1967. Seeing service in HMS Lock Lomond and with 40 Commando in Malta and North Africa. After a period of time as a television repair man I became a sound engineer with Penine Radio in Bradford at the opening of Commercial Radio in the UK. I then progressed to a sound Recordist with BBC Look North in Leeds and from there joined the ITN Northern News Crew. In 1982 I moved to Wales to take up the position of Sound Recordist with HTV Wales based in Carmarthen.
