..... UPDATED APR 2012 .........

Hello, I am Dave G8EPR of BEWDLEY WORCS ENGLAND

       EMAIL TO

Dave G8EPR Technical Curator of the Pye Museum  and Radiotelephone Museum website is available by calling G8EPR at GB7WF (DSTAR)

The PYE Museum of BEWDLEY started as early as 1973

when Barry G4CTU took me up into BIRMINGHAM for each of us to buy a PYE CAMBRIDGE AM10D  AM DASH MOUNT PMR set.

That evening I broke every dust core in the front end board and had a good cry in frustration over it.

My first set of PF1 PYE Pocketphones was bought through the post from B Bambers of LITTLEPORT CAMBS.

When they arrived I put in the receiver a 9 volt pp9 battery and the roar of a LION came from the speaker.

YES it was crystalled on THE WEST MIDS SAFARI PARK FREQ 1.5 miles away..AS I was a good LAW abiding RADIO AMATEUR I immediately re-crystalled it for 70cms!!!!

I was told that in a north midlands town a young radio amateur had also bought a set of PF1 Pocketphones and re-crystalled them for the local 70cm repeater.

He was walking in the town successfully working through the repeater, when up drew a POLICE PANDA CAR.

The policeman listened to his explanation as to why he was OPERATING POLICE RADIO EQUIPMENT IN THE STREET

The Policeman confiscated the PF1's saying that they were only made for the police by PYE, cause they were all marked PF1 which means POLICE FORCE 1 .SO NO ONE else can own them or use them, so the pair of PF1's must have been stolen.

Later that day, after the young radio amateur had told all the members of the local radio club.   The local police station was visited by several of the members carrying many pairs of PF1's which they plonked on the desk and said to the sergeant, you better arrest us all and our police radios that we use.

Then after explanations of what PF1 really means the sets were released from police custody..

Since then I have had great interest in PYE PMR RADIO

During one of the last BELLEVUE RADIO SHOWS in MANCHESTER, I came across a mint PYE PTC114-115 SET hidden under a table for sale for TEN Pounds.

BY the time I had passed it by ten times, on the eleventh time I went straight back to by it.

   IT HAD GONE.....

After that I decided TO GO FOR IT.. and start a PYE MUSEUM COLLECTION.  Which over the years has grown somewhat into 2.5 Bedrooms, Dining/lounge and a large shed and garage and roof space etc....

So now its time to go onto Internet with it.  With digital pictures Taken by GM8AOB MARTIN of FORT WILLIAM. SCOTLAND.  Who I thank very much.

The site deals mainly with Pye (and other companies) Radio Telephone and Telecommunication equipment.  It is very unlikely that we will be able to answer any questions about Pye domestic radios, radiograms, record players etc etc
