THE FINAL FINAL FINAL

A once-only amateur radio special event took place on Saturday 29th April 2000.

To mark the passing of  PORTISHEAD RADIO/GKA, the United Kingdom's long range radio station and one of the world's most famous names in the maritime communications field, which closed at at 1200z on Sunday 30th April 2000, the station operated cross-band with the amateur radio fraternity worldwide in this 12-hour long event.

With the station using it's multi-kilowatt transmitters at Rugby and it's remote receiving array at Somerton, the station's Radio Officers at Burnham gave radio enthusiasts (many of them ex-Radio officers themselves) the chance to experience professional communications from the comfort of your own radio shack.
