"WHY QRP?

Why use more power than you need? There is no point breaking the other station's s-meter. And then there is the challenge...
"BUT I CHASE DX

So do I, and its amazing what you can work with peanut power. My logbook is full of exotica.
"ON 40 METRES?

Yup!

"BUT I THOUGHT 40 WAS OVERCROWDED AND FULL OF DREARY NETS?

Up at the SSB end, perhaps, but down in the bottom 400 KHz you'll find loads of room, and some of the best operators around. And the band is always open!
"SO WHERE DO I LOOK FOR OTHER QRPers?

In Europe, at least, 7.030 is the spot. But after dark this frequency gets noisy with non-amateur QRM. Around 7.025 is better then.
"WHAT'S YOUR BEST 7MHz DX QSO?

How about a two-way QRP QSO with Brazil (579 both ways) or cracking the pileup for 9K2ZZ, all with two watts?

[124 DXCC + 5 continents]
"HOW DO YOU CRACK PILEUPS WITH QRP?

Get clever and listen to how the DX op is working things. Using QSK helps, so as you know what's going on around you. Keep your calls short and send 'QRP' at the end; its uncanny the number of times you get a "QRZ QRP?" back.
"HOW MUCH POWER DO YOU USE?

I use a tiny homebrew two watt transmitter. It was originally vxo tuned, but I have since added a vfo. It uses a 2N2222 oscilator (or buffer) driving a BD139. There's a couple of transistors in the keying circuit. That's all.
"MY ANTENNA IS NOTHING SPECIAL!

Neither is mine: just a sloping dipole with the top up at 10m running down to 3m at the western end.

"MAYBE I'LL TRY TONIGHT!
GØOAA has been QRT since moving to Scotland and the arrival of the first-born . GMØOAA has yet to excercise a paddle. 72s de Mike.
