Welcome

Cued Mile Failte

Hello, my name is Tom and I would like to welcome you to my web pages.
If you have any comments or suggestions, or you would just like to say "Hi",  please email  me.

I will try to keep these pages nice and simple with no singing and dancing gizmos.

My main interest is Amateur Radio, I first became interested in Radio in about 1980 when I started off, as did a lot of radio hams, with C.B. this lasted for a couple of years before moving on. I got my "A" class license in 1983. I then went on to learn Morse, and after passing the test in 1985 I moved on to the H.F. bands. After putting so much effort into getting through the Morse test, I worked mostly C.W. for the first few years, then, after getting my first computer in 1993, I slipped into the electronic modes of the hobby, SSTV, Pactor, RTTY, and more recently PSK31. The mode I have enjoyed the most, and have stuck with, is RTTY, about 99% of all my work on H.F. is in this mode, I also enjoy giving out a few points in the RTTY contests.

My radio here is an Icom IC 746 and due to space limitations the antenna is a Butternut ground plane, another problem at this location is that we are only about 10cm above sea level, so all in all not an ideal radio location. The computer is an ageing Packard Bell with an Intel Celeron 850Mhz chip, 128Mb RAM and 20Gb hard disk. For RTTY contests and for everyday chatting I am very pleased to use RCKrtty software through a PK232 MBX

As just about anything you would  wish to know about amateur radio can be found elsewhere on the internet or on QSL.NET, I will use this site to let you into some of my other interests.

Several years ago I started to build my family tree, a fascinating and time consuming interest which led to the finding of the  war diary of John Robert Wilson dating from 1917.
