WHAT IS GLARR?

Our Organizational Structure:

Great Lakes Amateur Radio Rovers, Incorporated (GLARR), is a 501 (c)(7), not-for-profit, Michigan fraternal organization. It is dedicated to the operation of Field Day, special event and contest stations. Membership is limited to no more than twenty Federal Communications Commission licensed amateur radio (ham) operators. Most current members live in Genesee County, Michigan, in the United States of America.

Our Goals:

We formed the organization to have fun while promoting amateur radio as a hobby. We do so by operating stations from interesting locations. When ever possible, the stations are set up in public places where we can interact with the public and generate publicity for ham radio.

GLARR was chartered to further the goals of the Amateur Radio Service. Those goals are to:

  • Provide a corps of trained communicators to serve the public interest in time of need.

  • Further the state-of-the-art in electronics.

  • Promote international good will.

The Amateur Radio Service is a valuable asset to society. That is because of amateur radio's long and proud history of unselfish, at times heroic, public service That service is often performed in times of disaster. Those disasters have taken the form of events such as the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing, recent floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, major fires and hazardous material spills

Our Affiliations:

GLARR is an American Radio Relay League Affiliated Club. The American Radio Relay League is the primary national organization representing the 650,000 licensed amateur radio operators in the United States.
