The Aire Valley Amateur Radio Repeater Society was formed to promote good operating practice through such repeater or repeaters, Membership is open to licensed radio amateurs ,and listeners, and to those interested in promoting the interests of amateur radio. GB3TP has had two locations - each of the sites being very different and presenting various technical and coverage challenges. The current site is at a Farm above Silsden in the Aire Valley - West Yorkshire - UK. The Aire Valley has long suffered from its location as far as radio amateurs are concerned, being hidden behind a range of hills on all sides and the regional repeater GB3NA did not overcome the hills and valleys left around the area after the 'ice-age'. The areas of Haworth, Bradford and Skiption are both popular tourist and commercial centre offers opportunity to the visiting radio amateur to choose from 3 major routes - none of which offered a continuity of service from a repeater |

The local amateur radio club Keighley Amateur
Radio Society (KARS) had numerous members whose VHF activity as limited
to 'in-town' QSO's as most residential locations are well below the
level of the surrounding hills. It was these facts which brought
together a number of local amateurs to discuss the practicalities of
setting-up a 2-metre voice repeater and the Aire Valley Amateur Radio
Repeater Society (GB3AE) was born, later to become GB3TP
