Click on the Image to enlarge it. This picture doesn't really allow you to appreciate just how many components there are in there !. The manual suggests that a full inventory should be the first task and I totally agree. Having done my Inventory I found 1 small connector missing and a couple of capacitors which is pretty good. The kit is superbly well presented all of the components for each board packed separately which helps with both the inventory and construction. The PCB's are all thru plated and of excellent quality. As the board are thru plated I would strongly suggest that a very good quality, temperature controlled, soldering iron be used and great care should be taken when placing components as they are VERY difficult to remove. The manual is something else. Every step is described in great detail and provides check boxes so that you can check off every stage of construction. Any areas of ambiguity are clearly explained. The manual itself is a work of art. All of the manuals can be downloaded from the Elecraft website in pdf format. There is an errata for the manual and several notices published for modifications to improve the radio. Anybody contemplating building the K2 should download and examine the manuals as they will give you an excellent idea of what the K2 is all about. All of the manuals are provided in printed for with kit and options. |
