GB2CL - Clacton Lifeboat

Special Event Station

17-18 July, 1999

The callsign GB2CL has been issued to celebrate 175 years of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and the re-launching of the Clacton Lifeboat. This weekend event will take place on the 17th and 18th of July.
QSL cards (donated by Waters & Stanton) will be distributed via the RSGB. Also, sponsorship forms have been distributed to members of the Harlow and District Amateur Radio Club which will help raise money for the RNLI.

If you would like to help sponsor the event then please contact Mark (2E0APH). Contributions can always be made directly to the RNLI.

The event will take place from the Lifeboat Station at the end of Clacton Pier. If the weather isn't kind, we will operate from inside the boat house. As you can imagine, the salt water will provide an excellent ground plane!

Anybody (licensed or otherwise) who is interested in helping out with the event should contact Mark (2E0APH).

The opportunity is being taken to give newly licensed amateurs the experience of setting up and operating such an event to help them with their future amateur radio activities. The radios will be operated mainly by novice members of the Harlow And District Radio Amateur Society (G6UT) under the co-ordination of Mark (2E0APH). However, help from others would be greatly welcomed. Guarding the call, and providing HF and full power supervision, will be Keith (G3WRO).
